E’ l’espressione condensata della differenza tra un periodo riformista e un periodo rivoluzionario: in un periodo riformista, la rivoluzione globale resta come un sogno che, se serve a qualcosa, è solo per dare peso a tentativi di cambiare qualcosa a livello locale; in un periodo rivoluzionario, si vede chiaramente che niente migliorerà senza un cambiamento globale radicale. In questo senso puramente formale, il 1990 è stato un anno rivoluzionario: le molte riforme parziali negli stati comunisti non avrebbero mai risolto i problemi; ed è stato necessario un crollo totale, per risolvere tutti i problemi della vita di tutti i giorni. Per esempio, il problema di dare cibo sufficiente alle persone.
